*** ProLog Backup and Restore Operations Under Windows Vista-64 *** January 23, 2009 This document applies to ProLog users running under Windows Vista-64. However, the Vista-64 backup modules can be utilized on other Windows Operating Systems if the User desires to do so. ProLog has for several years used a freeware version of PKZIP and PKUNZIP to compress and decompress backup files. These programs have worked successfully under all versions of Windows including Vista-32. However, Vista-64 has disallowed the running of 16 bit applications within the DOS shell and will produce an error message when ProLog attempts to launch the compression or decompression program. Version 6.33 of ProLog corrects the problem by providing a new Vista-64 backup module that does away with the utilization of the compression programs completely. So with V6.33 there are now two backup modules; one that uses the old compression technique and the other that uses the new Vista-64 backup. Which method is utilized is determined by a new checkbox selection in the Edit Configuration Configure User Preferences display window. This new checkbox selection at the bottom of the list is labeled "Use Vista- 64 Backup/Restore." With this checkbox activated, when you click the "Backup Logbook" command pushbutton on the Logbook Menu window, a Dialog Box will be displayed requesting the destination drive letter. Using the pull-down list, select the destination drive, then click the "Begin" command pushbutton. This will commence the backup of the logbook files to the destination drive followed by a completion message; click "OK' to complete the operation. Now, if you examine the root path of the destination disk, you find a folder named "ProLog Logbook Backup Files" and within that folder a sub-folder with the name of the logbook you just saved. Within that sub-folder will be four files; LOG.DBA, SYSTEM.INF, TAGDEFS.TXT and USER.INF. Additionally any .PAD files associated with that logbook will be there as well. Any subsequent backups of different loobooks will be stored as sub-folders under the primary "ProLog Logbook Backup Files" folder. Restoring a logbook is quite simple. Note however, that unlike the compression backup version where only a file named LOGBOOK0.EXE could be restored to LOGBOOK0, the Vista-64 backup module will permit you to restore the files in any logbook sub-folder to any selected logbook. Select the logbook to be restored, then click the "Restore Logbook" command pushbutton. This will produce a common dialog box where you will select the LOG.DBA file that you wish to restore. The initial path will be set to the currently selected logbook on the main drive. Pull-down the "Look in" list and select the destination drive, then open the "ProLog Logbook Backup Files" folder, then open the associated logbook and select the LOG.DBA file, then click the "Open" command pushbutton. Before the files are restored, you will be asked if you wish to restore the SYSTEM.INF file. If this is a new installation, or you have restored a previously crashed system and this is the first restored logbook click "Yes". If however you are restoring to a ProLog system that has been in use for some time click "NO". Once you have answered the SYSTEM.INF restoration question, ProLog will restore the backup files to the main system and commence the re-index files and award synchronizing operations. A Logbook Restoration Complete message will be displayed when these operations are finished.
